Alabama found enough offense Sunday night to win the PetroSun Independence Bowl but stumbled so much that even its star quarterback acknowledges the Crimson Tide aren't rolling just yet. "We had some ups and downs tonight, but we kept our composure," said John Parker Wilson, named the game's most valuable offensive player after the Tide's 30-24 victory over Colorado. "This team has a long way to go, but with everything we built this year, I'm really optimistic." Alabama (7-6) stopped a four-game losing streak and avoided consecutive losing seasons for the first time in 50 years. Colorado (6-7) finished below .500 for the second straight year but was vastly improved from a 2-10 mark in 2006. Wilson completed 13 of his first 15 passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns, and Alabama raced to a four-touchdown lead. Colorado couldn't complete a comeback when its attempt at a multi-lateral play as time expired collapsed shy of midfield.

New England 38, N.Y. Giants 35 It wasn?t nearly as easy as many people thought it would be, but the New England Patriots downed the New York Giants 38-35 on Saturday night, giving them the NFL?s first-ever 16-0 regular season record. Tom Brady and Randy Moss entered the record books as well, setting new single-season records for touchdowns scored at their respective positions. Eli Manning had a tremendous game, going 22-for-32 with 251 yards and four touchdowns, but history seemed to be on the Patriots? side. Trailing by twelve midway through the third quarter, New England scored twenty-two straight points to take the lead for good. New England will enjoy a week off before facing Pittsburgh, Jacksonville or Tennessee in the divisional round. Fantasy Star: Randy Moss, NE: 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Philadelphia 17, Buffalo 9 It was too little too late for the Philadelphia Eagles this year as they finished the regular season with three straight wins, good enough for an 8-8 record in 2007. Donovan McNabb went 29-for-41 with 345 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Brian Westbrook, who tallied 99 total yards, broke Philadelphia records for the most catches and yards from scrimmage in a season. Buffalo Bills? rookie Marshawn Lynch rushed for 105 yards on 22 carries, finishing his debut season with a total of 1,115 yards on the ground. Trent Edwards was 16-for-30 with 133 yards against the Eagles? defense; it was his tenth appearance of the season. Fantasy Star: Marshawn Lynch, BUF: 127 total yards. Houston 42, Jacksonville 28 Locked into the AFC?s first Wild Card slot, the Jacksonville Jaguars rested a majority of their offensive starters, including David Garrard, Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew. The Houston Texans took advantage; the win allowed them to finish the season 8-8, the best record in the team?s six-year history. Ron Dayne and Darius Walker combined to rush for 174 yards and three touchdowns for Houston. Stepping in for Garrard, Quinn Gray showed that he can hang in the NFL ? he went 25-for-39 with 302 yards and four touchdowns. The Jaguars will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers this coming Saturday at Heinz Field. Fantasy Star: Quinn Gray, JAX: 302 passing yards and four touchdowns. Green Bay 34, Detroit 13 The Green Bay Packers rested their starters for a majority of the game, but were still able to defeat the Detroit Lions, matching their franchise record for wins (13) in the process. Brett Favre played well before being pulled, going 9-for-11 with 99 passing yards and two touchdowns. Craig Nall did well in relief, notching 88 yards and a score on fifteen passing attempts. Brandon Jackson rushed 20 times for 113 yards, as the Packers rested Ryan Grant. Jon Kitna continued his struggles, going 22-for-48 with 246 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. After winning six of their first eight games, the Lions were victorious in just one of their remaining eight contests. Cleveland 20, San Francisco 7 The Cleveland Browns did what they had to in order to improve their chances at making the playoffs, but Tennessee?s win over Indianapolis on Sunday night ended their dreams of extending their season. Jamal Lewis ran for 128 yards and Braylon Edwards hauled in three passes for 67 yards and a touchdown for the Browns, who at 10-6 posted their best record since 1994 (when they won 11 games). Chris Weinke, who got the start for the injury-riddled San Francisco 49ers, went 13-for-22 with 104 yards and one touchdown. Derek Anderson, who left briefly with an injury, was 11-for-20 with 152 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Former Notre Dame standout Brady Quinn made his professional debut while Anderson recovered, going 3-for-8 with 45 yards. Fantasy Star: Jamal Lewis, CLE: 128 rushing yards. Chicago 33, New Orleans 25 The Chicago Bears ended the New Orleans Saints? chance of sneaking into the NFC playoffs on Sunday afternoon at Solider Field, winning 33-25. Kyle Orton was 12-for-27 with 190 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for the Bears, while Drew Brees went 35-for-60 with 320 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions for the Saints. Devin Hester matched his own single-season return touchdown mark on a 65-yard punt return in the third quarter. Pierre Thomas rushed for 105 yards for New Orleans, and added 121 receiving yards and a touchdown catch. Atlanta 44, Seattle 41 The Seattle Seahawks, headed for the postseason, rested their stars late in the game, which allowed the Atlanta Falcons to win just their fourth contest of the season. Chris Redman went 17-for-27 for 251 yards and four touchdowns, and Warrick Dunn tallied 70 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons on the ground. Matt Hasselbeck went 15-for-25 with 147 yards and a touchdown before giving way to Seneca Wallace, who was 17-for-22 with 206 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Maurice Morris rushed 13 times for 91 yards and a score, after taking over for Shaun Alexander, who had 31 yards and a score of his own. The Seahawks will host the Washington Redskins this Saturday afternoon in the Wild Card round of the NFC playoffs. Fantasy Star: Nate Burleson, SEA: 119 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Carolina 31, Tampa Bay 23 This game embodied the usual theme of a Week Seventeen battle. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, already having a playoff berth locked up, rested their big guns allowing the Carolina Panthers to save some face with a season-ending victory. Matt Moore was 15-for-24 with 174 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for Carolina, while Luke McCown went 21-for-28 with 236 yards, two touchdowns and a pick for Tampa Bay. The Panthers? DeAngelo Williams enjoyed his best game of the season, rushing for 121 yards and two touchdowns, leading Carolina to their seventh win of 2007. Michael Bennett did most of the rushing for the Buccaneers, who rested Earnest Graham, accumulating 39 yards on fifteen carries. Tampa Bay will host the Giants this Sunday. Cincinnati 38, Miami 25 Bill Parcells watched his Miami Dolphins finish the season 1-15, as they stumbled against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week Seventeen at home. Carson Palmer was 23-for-32 with 316 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, while John Beck and Cleo Lemon combined for a 27-for-42 performance with 258 yards and two scores. Chad Johnson was the beneficiary of Palmer?s accuracy, catching four passes for 131 yards and two trips to the end zone. Kenny Watson, who filled in for the struggling Rudi Johnson for most of the season, led the Bengals with 69 rushing yards and a touchdown. Jets 13, Kansas City 10 The New York Jets were victorious in this overtime battle, winning on a 43-yard field goal by Mike Nugent on the first drive of the extra period. Kellen Clemens started for New York, going 13-for-25 with 115 yards and one touchdown. Brodie Croyle was 20-for-43 for 195 yards and a touchdown for the Kansas City Chiefs. Thomas Jones and Leon Washington combined to rush for 165 yards for the Jets on 36 carries, while the Chiefs only managed 53 rushing yards as a team. Tony Gonzalez, who caught seven passes for 64 yards, broke Shannon Sharpe?s NFL tight end record for career catches midway through the third quarter. San Diego 30, Oakland 17 JaMarcus Russell played well in his first-ever NFL start, but couldn?t play well enough to lead the Oakland Raiders over the playoff-bound San Diego Chargers. Russell went 23-for-31 with 224 yards, one touchdown and an interception, while Philip Rivers was 13-for-23 for 135 yards and two scores in limited duty. Dominic Rhodes, carrying all of Oakland?s rushing duties with Justin Fargas out, accumulated 122 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries. LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 56 yards on 16 attempts, sharing duties with Michael Turner in the season finale. Tomlinson finished 2007 with 1,474 yards, good enough to lead the NFL as Willie Parker and Adrian Peterson stumbled down the stretch. Fantasy Star: Dominic Rhodes, OAK: 122 rushing yards and a touchdown. Denver 22, Minnesota 19 The Denver Broncos played spoiler, ending the Minnesota Vikings? chance at making the postseason with a dramatic overtime victory at Invesco Field. After fumbling on the first play of the overtime period, Tarvaris Jackson handed the ball over to the Broncos, who marched Jason Elam out on the first play for a 20-yard field goal to win the game. Jay Cutler was efficient for Denver, going 26-for-37 with 246 yards and two touchdowns, while Jackson notched 175 yards and two scores for Minnesota. Brandon Marshall cemented his place as Cutler?s favorite target, catching ten balls for 114 yards and a touchdown. Vikings? receiver Bobby Wade, who called for Jackson to remain the team?s starter in 2008 after the game, caught five passes for 92 yards and two scores. Arizona 48, St. Louis 19 The Arizona Cardinals finished the season on a high note, dismantling the St. Louis Rams en route to a 48-19 victory. Kurt Warner went 23-for-39 with 300 passing yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions for the Cardinals, as Marc Bulger finished the day 13-for-25 with 176 yards, one touchdown and two picks. Arizona returned two interceptions for touchdowns, including one by Antrel Rolle, who scored twice on returns against Cincinnati in Week Eleven. Edgerrin James has finally found a groove behind the Cardinals? offensive line; he rushed 24 times for 102 yards and a touchdown against the Rams. Despite poor quarterback play, Torry Holt still managed to grab seven balls for 93 yards in the season finale. Fantasy Star: Arizona Defense: Three sacks, three interceptions, two touchdowns and a forced fumble. Washington 27, Dallas 6 The Washington Redskins grabbed the NFC?s last Wild Card berth, becoming the third NFC East team to qualify for the playoffs, with a 27-6 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Todd Collins led the Redskins, who haven?t lost since burying Sean Taylor, going 22-for-31 with 244 yards and a touchdown. The Cowboys limited Tony Romo, who was just 7-for-16 with 86 yards and an interception, allowing Brad Johnson to quarterback the offense for a substantial amount of time, he finished the game with 79 yards on 7-for-11 passing. Clinton Portis led the Redskins with 104 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while the Washington defense held Dallas to just one yard rushing all afternoon. The Redskins will face the Seahawks this Saturday afternoon. Fantasy Star: Clinton Portis, WSH: 104 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Baltimore 27, Pittsburgh 21 The Pittsburgh Steelers rested Ben Roethlisberger against the Baltimore Ravens, allowing the Ravens to swoop in and steal a victory from the AFC North champions. Charlie Batch, who filled in for Roethlisberger, went 16-for-31 with 218 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, while Ravens? rookie Troy Smith went 16-for-27 with 171 yards and a touchdown. Musa Smith, starting for Willis McGahee, tallied 83 yards and a touchdown for Baltimore, who finished the season 5-11. Najeh Davenport, the Steelers? top running back with Willie Parker lost to a broken leg, rushed just twelve times for 27 yards, but managed to find the end zone on Sunday. The Steelers will host the Jaguars this week in the AFC Wild Card round. Fantasy Star: Santonio Holmes, PIT: 98 receiving yards and one touchdown. Tennessee 16, Indianapolis 10 The Tennessee Titans earned themselves a trip to the AFC playoffs with a win over the Indianapolis Colts, who were looking to rest a majority of their offensive starters on Sunday. Vince Young left the field in the third quarter with a quad injury, but Kerry Collins picked up the pieces, helping the Titans make the playoffs for the first time since 2003. Young and Collins combined to go 24-for-31 with 263 passing yards, but no touchdowns. Chris Brown scored the Titans? only touchdown on an 8-yard run in the first quarter. Peyton Manning played sparingly, allowing Jim Sorgi to go 11-for-24 with 68 yards and a score. The Titans will face the Chargers this weekend, while the Colts rest at home awaiting their divisional round opponent. Fantasy Star: Justin Gage, TEN: 104 receiving yards.

As their turnaround season ended inside a dome hundreds of miles away, the Cleveland Browns could only watch -- and wonder. Despite 10 wins, the Browns, who won just four games last season, were left out of the AFC playoffs after the Tennessee Titans won 16-10 in Indianapolis on Sunday night to clinch the final wild-card spot and set up a first-round game in San Diego. The Browns were left California dreaming.

Packers' Coach Mike McCarthy had been so incensed with his players' poor performance last week he considered making his starters play a full four quarters in an otherwise inconsequential regular-season finale. McCarthy cooled off by Sunday, deciding to rest several top players for the playoffs. It turned out he didn't really have to choose between playing it safe and playing to win in Green Bay's 34-13 victory over Detroit. The Packers (13-3) didn't need their starters to beat the lowly Lions, tie a franchise record for victories in a season and rebound from an ugly loss in windy and cold conditions at Chicago. "I think it punched us right in the mouth, and it was a good wake-up call," McCarthy said of last week's loss to the Bears. "The most important thing about a wake-up call, in my opinion, is how you respond to it."

With one mighty heave, Tom Brady and Randy Moss took care of the record books. Now it's down to business for the unbeaten New England Patriots: stamping themselves as the greatest team in NFL history. The Patriots completed a perfect if somewhat joyless journey through the regular season Saturday night, finishing with a remarkable 16-0 record following a thrilling 38-35 comeback victory over the New York Giants. New England became the first NFL team since the 1972 Dolphins to win every game on the schedule, and that one was only 14-0. This victory required a comeback from a 12-point deficit engineered by the brilliant Brady and smashed the Patriots' league mark for consecutive victories.

LaDainian Tomlinson took over the NFL rushing lead, got his fourth straight 100-yard game and called it a night. Tomlinson had a 17-yard scoring run among his 107 yards as he led the AFC West champion Chargers to a 23-3 win over the Broncos on Monday night. L.T. sat out the bulk of the second half. The Chargers won their fifth straight game and for the ninth time in 11 games. They need simply to win at Oakland on Sunday to secure the AFC's No. 3 playoff seed.

Pittsburgh 41, St. Louis 24 The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the St. Louis Rams 41-24 on Thursday, assuring a playoff berth, but lost running back Willie Parker to a broken leg in the first quarter. Najeh Davenport did a terrific job stepping in for Parker, who led the NFL in rushing entering Week Sixteen. Davenport rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown against the Rams, and Ben Roethlisberger went 16-for-20 with 261 yards and three touchdown strikes. Marc Bulger was 18-for-35 with 208 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in defeat. Steven Jackson added 85 yards on the ground. Fantasy Star: Najeh Davenport, PIT: 167 total yards and two touchdowns. Dallas 20, Carolina 13 The Dallas Cowboys avoided their first losing streak of the season with a 20-13 victory over the hapless Carolina Panthers on Saturday night. Tony Romo, playing with an injured thumb, went 28-for-42 with 257 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Marion Barber balanced the Cowboys? attack, rushing for 110 yards and a score. The win may prove costly to the Cowboys, though, who have locked up the NFC?s top seed as Terrell Owens suffered a high-ankle sprain in the second quarter of the team?s victory. It appears as though T.O. will be able to play when Dallas begins their playoff push in two weeks. Steve Smith led the Panthers with 137 receiving yards and a touchdown. Philadelphia 38, New Orleans 23 The Philadelphia Eagles played spoiler, severely hurting the New Orleans Saints? playoff hopes with a 38-23 victory at the Superdome. In the process, Donovan McNabb went 24-for-35 with 263 yards and three touchdowns, embarrassing Drew Brees, who was 30-for-45 with 289 yards and an interception. Brian Westbrook ran for 100 yards, and McNabb added 37 yards on the ground, as well. Aaron Stecker rushed 13 times for 49 yards and reached the end zone twice. The Eagles? playoff hopes ended last week, but McNabb may be playing for his future in Philadelphia. Minnesota?s loss to the Redskins on Sunday night kept the Saints in the playoff picture. Jacksonville 49, Oakland 11 The Jaguars dismantled the Raiders on their way to locking up the AFC?s number one Wild Card spot. JaMarcus Russell played extensively for the Raiders but struggled mightily. Russell went 7-for-23 with 83 passing yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Dominic Rhodes rushed 27 times for 115 yards, almost double what he had accumulated thus far in 2007. Duckett rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown in the win offsetting the continued struggles of Jon Kitna, who was 9-for-16 with 115 passing yards and an interception. Damon Huard, who replaced Brodie Croyle after an injury while making a tackle on an interception return, went 24-for-36 with 305 yards and two touchdowns. Chicago 35, Green Bay 7 The Green Bay Packers lost their bid to become the NFC?s top overall seed after losing to the Chicago Bears 35-7 on Sunday. Brian Urlacher returned an interception for a touchdown, and Corey Graham returned a punt seven yards for another score. Sage Rosenfels was 22-for-36 with 233 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in the loss. Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark combined for 203 receiving yards and three touchdowns at the RCA Dome as Clark broke a pair of Colts? tight end receiving records. Frank Gore tallied 132 total yards and a touchdown against the Bucs, who have fallen behind the Seattle Seahawks for the NFC?s third seed. Chad Pennington played well for New York, notching 264 passing yards, a touchdown and two interceptions against the very tough Titans? defense. Tennessee now controls their own fate. A win over Indianapolis in the season finale would secure the AFC?s final playoff spot and give them their first winning record since 2003. He was 16-for-33 with 199 yards and a score, a 79-yard strike to Derrick Mason. Baltimore lost Willis McGahee a few minutes into the game with a rib injury; it?s unlikely that he?ll play this coming weekend against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Laurence Maroney enjoyed his best performance of the season, rushing for 156 yards and one touchdown. Cleo Lemon kept his mistakes to a minimum but wasn?t very accurate.
